8 Reasons Why You Need to Make NASCAR Your Next Family Vacation
Last Sunday our little family had the amazing pleasure of attending Nascar with Sugarlands Distilling Co.; the official moonshine sponsor of Nascar. The race took place at The Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. Coming from Orange County, CA the drive was easy. It took us less than 45 minutes! As a family, we love doing things together and it’s always an added bonus when the whole family is entertained. The Nascar races didn’t start until 12:30pm but by the time we sat down to watch the races, we had already had a full day of fun. Sugarlands Distilling Co. took amazing care of us so keep reading because I can’t wait to share a recap of the amazing day we had.
Starting our engines…
Our day with Nascar started at 7am and from the very moment we stepped onto the premises, we got the VIP treatment. Sugarlands set us up with passes for the Fuel For Hospitality. We were greeted with a breakfast buffet fully stocked with breakfast burritos, coffee, tea, and fresh fruit. Truthfully, I wish my breakfast burritos tastes as good as the ones from that morning. Shortly after arriving, we got to ride in the pace car and take a lap around the track. With speeds hitting 120mph, it really felt like I was riding in a Nascar car; I can’t imagine going any faster! Feeling what 120mph felt like, I really got an understanding for what 190mph – 208mph would feel like.
Guess I’ll be scratching off professional NASCAR driver from my list of potential careers.
Not only did I experience the fast speeds of NASCAR but I got to experience it alongside fellow celebrities like TJ Dillashaw, Chuck Liddell, and Wilmer Valderrama who were also attending the event. So cool!!!
Then we learned about NASCAR cars
Next stop was an educational tour of the pit garage. We got to see the mechanics and pit team fine tuning the cars before the big race. Our “tour guide” Jeff taught us all the ins and outs of being part of a pit crew from the fine tuning to the politics to how fast they can fill up a gas tank. He also explained the rules of NASCAR – which to be honest, I had no idea there were rules. My understanding of the sport were that you get in and go fast. Most of the rules and regulations are on the tuning of the cars themselves and if you get called to the main NASCAR office on-site, you’re gonna be in trouble.
From there we headed back to the beautiful Prevost motorcoach to meet with NASCAR driver David Ragan. He spoke with us about the different tracks and how they differ. David explained that the air quality at some tracks makes all the difference while driving, which I thought was very cool insight. He also explained that the Fontana track was one of the largest tracks and it could fit all other tracks in the infield alone. WOW!
After lunch, our final stop was the Driver and Crew Chief meeting. Being so close to Los Angeles, the room was filled with celebrity guests like Machine Gun Kelly, Motley Crüe and many more. Being in the meeting with all the drivers and celebrities was such an experience. I really felt like I got the whole experience of NASCAR thanks to Sugarlands Distilling Co. Can you believe that all this magic happened before the race started at 12:30pm? We were as busy as can be all morning but definitely an experience I won’t forget.
Here Are 8 Reasons You Need to Take Your Family to NASCAR
1. The endless use of Talladega Night quotes.
“I don’t know what to do with my hands.”
“Shake & Bake, baby!”
“I wanna go fast.”
“If you ain’t first, you’re last”
2. An event structured around kids & family.
I love the option of bringing your motorhome into the infield and making a weekend out of it. I was a little jealous of everyone riding their bikes from spot to spot before the race started. Also, a race that starts at 12:30, perfect time to enjoy the morning and not have to rush out the door. NASCAR races are essentially the same thing over and over again so if you need to go grab a snack or miss a couple laps, you can do so without missing the action.
3. Tickets aren’t that expensive.
Tickets start at $45 per person and RV spots are $475 so for a full day of fun, just take my money! Check out this post on how to get money in your pocket now.
4. Wear a cute NASCAR outfit
When will you ever have another opportunity to wear checkered leggings with red boots? Just do it.
5. The cars are quite a sight
Before the race starts, it’s pretty cool to see 40+ cars go around the track 5 across
6. “Semi-Safe” car wrecks
Really fast cars, paper thin exterior, and a winners mentality means lots of car wrecks. Kinda fun to watch, only when no one gets hurt
7. Any excuse to have an afternoon drink
On a hot day in the sun, an ice cold drink is a great way to relax and soak up the sun. Many people will choose a light beer to cool off but I much prefer a Speed N’ Berries. A cocktail I created with Sugarland’s Lemonade Moonshine. It’s a lower alcohol content so you can sip on it all day plus it’s low in calories!
8. Everyone should experience NASCAR once
NASCAR has such a cult following of people that it’s fun to attend one of the biggest, most recognized sports ever. So don’t hesitate – GO FAST!
Thank you Sugarlands Distilling Co. for making our NASCAR experience so memorable!
