Coming into this Blogging Essentials blog, I hope you had a chance to read my first blog, “The Quickest Way to Become A Blogger.” It really goes into detail about how to start blogging and find out what you want your voice to be in the blogging community. Up next in this blog, I will be letting you in on all the products I use on a daily basis to take photos and post them to social media and on my blog.
Taking photos is the most important part of blogging and social media. When I first started in social media, there was no standard for a good photo. Nowadays there is so much talent pouring onto the internet, every photo needs to be bomb quality. For the last 2 years, I was just taking photos on my iPhone. I strongly suggest starting with what you have before going out and spending a fortune on a Canon 5D, all the lenses, and lighting (but a Canon 5D is definitely on my blogger wishlist!). I recommend using what you have at first because blogging is a lot of work so try it out with whatcha got and decide if you’re ready to take the next step.
I have a Sony Alpha a5100and I love it. I love it because it has a flip up LCD screen which is great for selfies and seeing what you’re capturing in a video, can wirelessly transmit photos to my phone, and it has great features like a beauty feature, it auto focuses on the subject so if you’re doing video it tracks and focuses on you, an auto adjust (meaning it knows what kind of lighting you have and adjusts accordingly), interchangeable lenses, and it also shoots super fast!!
Can you tell I’m obsessed with it??
Most of my content is created in advanced because it takes way more time to get ready 10x in one week rather than getting ready once and shooting everything I need for the week. I will either schedule a photo shoot or plan a strategic outing so I can get the proper shot. Most of the time Trav is with me or my photographer, Anthony, but sometimes I have a short deadline for a blog and don’t have anyone to take the photo so having a tripod is essential for me. I have a small handheld one and a tall one. You can never have too many options!
On the topic of being super busy, I was having a really hard time shooting all my indoor content (beauty vlogs and makeup looks) with the best lighting so I got a LED dimmable ring light and now I can shoot all night if needed. It really took the stress off my life.
