Who else looks forward to warm summer days and cool summer nights? In my opinion, Summer is the best season of the year. Probably why I live in Southern California where we have year round Summer & eating a turkey burger is a way of life.

Not really. But we do only have two seasons: slightly cold and 65 degrees or sunny and 75 degrees. As a SoCal resident, we are spoiled for sure. With that constant warm weather, clothes are optional. Therein lies why Californians are so health conscious

I’m constantly trying to find healthy, nourishing recipes for my whole family to enjoy. So that’s why I fell in love with this delicious take on the turkey burger. Using sandwich thins instead of a bun and a homemade turkey burger patty means this delicious burger is packed with protein and very few carbs. 

When you are constantly trying to eat healthy, sometimes you have to think outside the box and get weird with it. I was delightfully surprised with how good these turkey burgers with tzatziki sauce were. Cash wasn’t too keen on the tzatziki sauce so I left his plain and added his favorite sauce: ketchup.

I love cooking meals that both the adults and kids can enjoy. So without further adieu, I present the most delicious turkey burger recipe!

Here’s What You Need

Turkey Burgers

  • 1lb of lean ground turkey
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (less if you want it less spicy)
  • 3/4 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • Salt + Pepper (I’ve really been into pink himalayan sea salt lately because the health benefits are AWESOME!! —> BENEFITS OF HIMALAYAN SEA SALT

Tzatziki Sauce

  • 1/2 Cup Greek Yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder (I like it garlic-y!)

Burger Toppings

  • 4 -6 whole-wheat sandwich thins
  • 4 – 6 stalks of romaine lettuce hearts (use the leafiest green part)
  • 1 red tomato sliced

Here’s What You Do

  1. In a medium sized skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat, add the diced onion and cook until tender. Add garlic and cook till you smell the deliciousness! Set aside to cool
  2. In a large bowl, mix the ground turkey, egg, parsley, oregano, red pepper, cooled onion, bread crumbs, and mix until combined. Add a little salt and pepper and form the mixture into baseball-sezed patties. You should end up with 4-6
  3. Reheat the skillet on medium-high. Brown both sides of the patties for approximately 5 mins each. Lower the heat, cover with a lid, and cook on LOW until burgers are cooked through.
  4. In a small separate bowl, mix greek yogurt with cucumber, olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic powder to combine. Season with a little salt and pepper if necessary.
  5. Get them burgers assembled!! Bun, Lettuce, Tomato slice, Burger, Tzatziki sauce, Bun
  6. Voila! Enjoy with some kettle chips or a salad like I did.
